Guerba World Travel and Intrepid Travel
While Guerba World Travel and Intrepid Travel's official relationship began a bit less than a year ago, when Guerba was sold to Intrepid, their friendship stretches back a couple of decades.
Back in 1988 Intrepid's co-founders Geoff Manchester and Darrell Wade were mulling over the idea of starting a small groups adventure travel company as they led a group of 12 mates across the Sahara. Darrell says "I knew nothing at all and all the other companies I met on the road didn't know much more. But all the Guerba road crew really knew their stuff. So whenever I saw a Guerba truck I used to go over with a crate of beer and say to the leader ‘The beer is on me - if the info is on you.' It got me, our mates and the truck through Africa! I remember coming out of that trip with the thinking ‘If I ever we get the opportunity to work with them...'"
20 years later, Darrell got that opportunity when the companies joined, becoming Intrepid Guerba, one of the world's leading suppliers of small group adventures. By joining together they now have an even greater range of trips on offer, not only in Africa, but also globally. Intrepid journey through over 90 countries and have adventures throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
More than just a love of adventure, Guerba and Intrepid are both committed to responsible and sustainable travel, a passion they've shared with thousands of travellers worldwide. Martin Crabb, founder of Guerba said "I was thrilled when Intrepid won the Responsible Travel awards for 2006. Guerba have always been committed to travelling in a culturally and environmentally responsible way and now that we've joined forces with Intrepid I know that our values about putting money back into local economies, meeting local people and ensuring that we make as little impact as possible will continue to be at the forefront of every adventure."
